Dick and Matt Perron Spring 06 Lanier Tournament Champs
Sunday January 15th, Duluth Bass Club sported in the new season with 35 teams fishing the 1st of 6 tournaments at Big Sid Lanier. And once again Lanier proved itself to be a premier fishery as results proved to be even better than years past. Club members brought in 18 limits when all but a couple weighed fish. Lots of three pounders crossed the scales and least 6 fish weighed surpassed the 4 pound mark. And better yet, the club welcomed and enjoyed the company of several new teams testing their skills amongst the seasoned veterans..
Also new to the club, was the newly instituted Terminator "Hall of Fame" contest and the first winners were Howard Bentley and Kelton Peels, who wisely had their trusty Terminator jigs tied on when inspectors inventoried their ready fishing arsenal. For their confidence in Terminator they received $100 certificate towards Terminator products of their choice. Way to go guys. Congratulations and special thanks to Terminator for supporting our club with this special monthly honor.
Sunday’s Tournament Big Bass honors was a 5.14 largemouth caught by Dick Perron fishing a homemade crank-bait in 1-ft of water.
And the top tournament honors went to the team of Dick Perron and son Matt with a solid 5 fish limit weighing 14.45, solidified with that big bass. Dick – Matt’s pattern was crank-baits in the 1-8 ft depths in Mud & Orr Creek. Dick said it was a most enjoyable day to have a good sack early and just have fun fishing.
Milling out Second place was Rick Cotten – Eric Holmes with 5 quality Lanier Spots weighing 13.96 lb. Rick quickly pointed out he & Eric caught most of the weight they brought to the scales while working spoons, drop-shots, & creepy crawlers in deep water creek channels pushing 45-50’ depths.
Howard Bentley – Kelton Peels carved out third with good limit of spots weighing 13.93 lb. Howard shared they fished “down” lake, and caught fish on spoons in the 40’ft depths and Fish-Head spins over the bait-fish suspended in 25-30 ft depths. These guys also walked away the Terminator prize pack.
Kam – Tim Lim a new team fishing with us this spring who off to a great season; brought in a nice limit weighing 12.72 lb. capturing fourth and had one magnum weighing 4.75 lbs good for 3rd BB of the day. Kam-Tim’s fish fell to spinner-baits early and a GP finesse worm fished T-Rig in 15-ft depths during the remainder of the day. Great catch guys.
Fifth place went to Brian – Julie Robinson with a limit weighing 12.48 lbs. and included a 3.30 lb. magnum. Julie shared she caught several fish on spinner-baits and crank-baits in less than 10-ft depths, and Brian controlled the net.
Beau – Watt Keller with 5 quality Lanier Spots weighing 12.19 lb which was good for sixth place. Beau & Watt honed in on a T-Rig GP Trick-worm pattern in the 30-ft depths. These guys are another new team who joined this spring and are off to a good start – welcome guys.
Seventh place went to Randy – Albert Little with their limit weighing 12.05 lb. Randy noted, we stayed with our Christmas holiday tournament patterns working the drop-shot and spoons in the 30 ft depths.
Hats off and congratulations to Dick – Matt for a great catch and a well deserved win. Welcome back guys.
