Tightening It Up
Duluth Bass Club reached the halfway point of its regular season on Lake Hartwell this past Sunday, where the outing generated position changes and an even closer race to the Classic. When previously dormant teams made their move and others faltered, the Points and Classic Championships could belong to anyone. Especially with what is considered a make or break weekend just on the horizon. April will be a real pivotal point for each team at Lake Guntersville’s two-day. For it will surely yield heavy some sacks keep the Spring Season’s race interesting.
Capturing tournament honors Father and Son Bill and Bill Booth made their move at the opportune moment by sight fishing for bedding bass and proving again that they have fine tuned their skills. Most anglers dismissed this pattern, as majority of the fish didn’t commit to bedding and backed off with the cooler weather during the week. The Booths seized the moment and the opportunity by finding a few key areas of the lake where some bass had fully committed during the warming trend of the week before. Bill Jr. noted, “There weren’t many of these fish and they were only in a few isolated places, you really had hunt.” Snatching them off the beds with tubes the Booths produced a limit of 14.18 beating out the nearest competitor by almost two pounds, climbing from 13 to 3rd in the standings.
Congrats guys, on another fine Booth & Booth win!
Second place went to Jerry Adams and Steve Nalder with a five fish limit of 12.39. Jerry and Steve worked main lake humps and points fishing green pumpkin jigs.
Hammering out third place Ed and Eddie Krauth (another father and son team) produce a limit of 11.53. They actually tied with forth place, but won the third with the bigger fish tie breaker rule. Ed and Eddie caught their catch on jerkbaits and Bill Norman Deep Little N crankbaits in 5 to 12 feet of water.
Suffering to the Krauths, Howard Bentley and Kelton Peels settled on forth place, also with a limit of 11.53. Howard noted that Kelton was front-man today and he was the net-man, and that if Kelton wants to keep role, he would be pleased to remain the net-man. Howard and Kelton worked a pattern of jigs in deep pockets and creek channels in 20 to 25 feet of water.
Fifth place went to Mr. I need some gas money Royce Ingle and Lamar Rainey with 5 pressing the scales to 9.90. Working on a tip from Mac, Royce and Lamar worked green pumpkin finesse worms in shallow depths from to 2 to 10 feet. They targeted sandy banks with stumps and logs.
The sixth place slot went Gary and Matt Henry with a limit of 9.50. Gary and Matt worked a similar pattern to fifth but opted to stay in less than three feet of water and used a green pumpkin trick worms.
Big Bass Honors, Jack Smith with 3.92 pounder --- way to go Jack!
Terminator Hall Fame or Shame: Sad to report once again it is a “Hall of Shame.” Dick and Matt Perron for some unknown reason left there spinner bait rod at home. Dick blaming Matt and Matt is blaming Dick, either way they both lose out. But with this exception, they both have the privilege of wearing dunce’s caps. And they will not reap the benefits of a $100 Terminator gift certificate.
Hopefully, after enough razzing the club will catch on. Members, please advise if we didn’t explain the program well enough, Gene will be more than happy to go over it again for you -- LOL.
Weather Conditions: While race fans in Atlanta were disappointed, across the South Carolina line the club experience a somewhat pleasant day on the water, a morning low of 38 and high of 61 degrees. The lake was mostly clear with surface temps from 56 to 58 degrees.
Looking Ahead: April 1st is the St Jude tournament at Laurel Park, entry fees will be accepted at the ramp. Please note: the next club meeting is Monday April 3rd. April 8th and 9th is Lake Guntersville, ramp location is Civitain Park.
Special thanks again Tom’s Foods and Terminator Fishing Lures for making it all that much more enjoyable!
